Meditations from Proverbs 9 on Lady Wisdom, Part 3
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
What does it mean to fear the Lord? It means to revere Him, to respect Him, to give Him his due honor. It means that I know that I was created by God for His pleasure and not that He exists to bring me pleasure. It means that I acknowledge Him as my King and Lord, my ruler and master. It is all about Him and not about me.
Wisdom is viewing life through God’s perspective; seeing things in light of eternity. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, Don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and He will direct your paths.” (Prov 3:5-6)
What is knowledge of the Holy One? It may include trying to understand how God loves us and then loving others in the same way. It may include studying the laws of nature and applying those same or similar principles in our lives. It may include studying what God has communicated about, how He works, and trying to live in sync with that as much as possible.
How do I obtain knowledge of the Holy One? Meditating on God’s word and being intentional to listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Overall, being committed to have a lifestyle of listening to and seeking God.
