“Make Me Feel Important”

November 9, 2011 By jeff Leave a Comment

On Value and Worth, Part 4 of 4

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you.  For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. Phil 2:19-20 (ESV)

I have just made a case in my two previous blog posts that we should look to God and not other people to affirm our worth.  But here lies a paradox: God wants to use us to affirm the worth of others.  That being said, it is extremely rare that people care about others enough to point out value and worth.

So ponder this question: What if we were to communicate to other people that they have value and worth?  That would be quite extraordinary.  It is profoundly sad that Paul only had one person who really cared about the welfare of the Philippians.

Mary Kay Ash, who founded Mary Kay Cosmetics, said, “Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, ”Make me feel important.” Not only will you succeed in sales, you will succeed in life.”

If we make it a life-long habit to be intentional about communicating to other people what value they have, this could be one of the greatest gifts we could give them!  Who knows, God may use you to be the one person who really cares about someone, and uses you as a conduit to show His concern for them!  It could transform their life!

Lord, do I desire to be that one person?
