The Power of Focusing on the Few

January 30, 2012 By jeff Leave a Comment

Most people intuitively know that being focused has power. If you spread your attention and efforts across many things, you can make incremental progress, but you will never achieve greatness.

The mistaken idea that we can multi-task doesn’t help our results. Splitting our attention across divergent tasks lowers our effectiveness and productivity.

Don’t believe me? Try writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper and talking on the phone with a client at the same time – you might get through it, but the quality of both efforts will suffer every time. To be great at anything requires your full attention.

Here’s how to get better at being focused:

  1. Pursue only one or two big opportunities at any point in time.
  2. Carve out time every week and focus on just one of those opportunities at a time.
Applying these simple rules will help you to leverage the power of focus in your business and personal life.
